Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed & Something Blue

May 15, 2017

At the beginning of 2017, I made a resolution/theme that this year is gonna be about embracing changes and creating more opportunities for myself, thus, the theme #Build2017. And so far, this year has been very blissful (on most parts).

NEW LAPTOP

My Acer netbook has been showing signs of giving up since last year. It has come to a point where I had to wait 5 minutes before the laptop reacts to what I clicked! Yep, talk about s l o w. Good thing my boyfriend lets me exchange his laptop with mine from time to time so I could do some blog work. Or sometimes go incognito during office hours

To be fair, I've been using it for almost 5 years now, and I think it's about time that I put it to rest after enduring those thesis night and series marathons back in college.

I was choosing among ASUS UX 410, Dell XPS 13, and MacBook Air 13. After few deliberations and crowdsourcing on Twitter, I ended up going for Apple because of its durability and functionality. I actually wanted a Pro, but hey, it doesn't come cheap, so I guess I'll save that for when I'm actually earning a lot already. HAHA! So far, I'm impressed by how fast and efficient this is compared to Windows. Thanks for convincing me to make the switch, blogger friends! 💻  I'm really happy that the wants/needs that I put on The Sunday Currently gets accomplished one at a time. First, getting my own camera, and then this! *baby steps, baby steps*

CHANGE OF THEME

I promised myself that I would improve my blogging game by constantly updating it at least once a week. The plan went on... for about three months. And by April, I was pretty much struggling to publish anything. I guess, at some point, every blogger does hit the writer's block. I came up with a number of ideas, but I cant figure out how to execute them well. I don't wanna give anything half-baked, so there they are, still a bunch of drafts I don't intend to finish anytime soon. Some of the bloggers I know are either transferring on a different platform or curating new content for their vlogs. Two things I can't afford at the moment because one, I'm not ready to commit into another financial obligation, and two, still can't seem to find the time. But hopefully, someday.

For the meantime, in order to get some inspiration, I decided to revamp the blog a bit. Luckily, FearneCreativeDesign was on sale & I still have some spare credits from PayPal, so I bought a new theme that I think would suit me really well. I've always been a fan of grid templates, but since a lot of people actually prefer sidebars, I tried to compromise both ideas. I also changed the theme color from old rose to a powder blue for a fresher look. And lastly, added a catchy header with the parallax effect (*only works on desktop) on my page. All of this wouldn't be possible without the help of Eve from FCD! I swear, she has been the most helpful web designer I've encountered! If you're on Blogger, I highly recommend her pre-made templates.

It's the same old TDQ, but with a new look! Anyway, what do you guys think about the new theme? 💙 If you're having troubles about the font size, style & color, please let me know so I could fix it.

CAREER SHIFT

If you're following me on Twitter, you probably have an idea on what I'm talking about. A few weeks ago, I officially filed for resignation to the company I'm currently working for and I'll be out by the end of the month. Don't get me wrong. I love my job, I enjoy working with the team, and it has been a continuous learning journey ever since I started working for this start-up. But another opportunity presented itself, and it couldn't be more convenient.

I get to keep my blog. I can do my side jobs, ie. conducting calligraphy classes. I don't have to work from 8 to 5 and report to an office on a daily basis. Basically, it's more of a freelance(ish) job, so I would be able to take hold of my time much better.

That's about it! Expect more regular posts in the coming weeks. But for now, I'll try to catch up on the blog posts I missed. Comment yours below!
